Another Thursday, and as is now a good custom at Campos Del Abuelo, another Newsletter 😉.

But first, we have two more pieces of news to announce…

The first is the new products we're bringing to Campos del Abuelo, the second… Surprise!

If you want to know what they are, read the newsletter to the end 🤗!

In recent centuries, we have seen an unprecedented increase in population.

There were more and more of us, and it didn't seem like it was going to stop anytime soon… The farmers of the time were overwhelmed with all the new mouths to feed.

The solution was clear: Production had to be increased.

But how 🤔?

The scientists of the time found a solution: new and varied fertilizers, which is what plants eat, and which could be used alongside the methods of the time to increase agricultural production.

At the time, this was a revolution, another tool to complement existing techniques, which allowed farmers to save the day once again.

Compost organico

However, as time went on, fertilizers became increasingly artificial and harmful to the soil and microfauna.

And this could have been just an anecdote, but the cheapening of these harmful chemical products, which displaced more natural fertilizers, forced farmers to overexploit the land to keep up with demand.

This led to all sorts of negative consequences.

For starters, these new chemical fertilizers are harmful to the microorganisms that live in the soil and are essential for the proper development of plants.

This creates a domino effect, whereby more and more fertilizer is needed, as there is no ecosystem to regulate nutrients.

In addition, the excess of these chemicals filters into groundwater, ending up and rendering unusable any drinking water sources that might be there, making a purification process necessary before this water can be drunk.

And it even affects the farmers themselves!

In the past, farmers were experts in all kinds of crops, but as demand grew, they had to choose to specialize in a few to speed up the process.

This led to the well-known monocultures, where a field is used solely for one type of crop over and over again, attracting all kinds of pests and depleting the soil, making pesticides and even more fertilizer necessary to remedy it…

As you can see, it's a disaster.

However, all is not lost yet.

Entire families of farmers have passed down through generations the methods necessary to break this cycle.

Each family has its secret.

If you want to know some of our tips as farmers fighting for a sustainable ecosystem to break free from the chains of artificial products, don't miss the next newsletters!

To finish today's newsletter, the news you've been waiting for 🤗.
