Good morning!

Today we come with big news. Finally, something we all (even me, believe it or not) were eager to hear: Oranges are back!

That's right, Navelinas, the first oranges of the season, are ready to be harvested. Starting next week, you can find them in our online store.

To think that a few days ago my fields were completely flooded and we didn't know what might happen. It's a relief to know that the Navelinas are well-sugared and juicy, and almost ready to be sent to your home.

We are literally hours away from harvest.

And just between us, Navelina oranges are among my favorites due to their characteristics. But wait, before I tell you about that, I want you to know something…

Here, everything is slowly returning to normal, after the devastating storm we suffered.

The consequences of the DANA continue to be felt in our daily work.

Because it hasn't just been waiting for the flood to pass and checking the condition of our crops (which, fortunately, are in perfect condition). At Campos del Abuelo, a large part of our tasks involves assembling each box and making deliveries on time.

And it is precisely for this reason that the condition of the roads has been our biggest concern.

But shipments are now back on track and most are arriving within the estimated 24-hour delivery time.

We also understand that this is an atypical situation that is beyond our control.

That's why I thank you again for your patience and understanding, and I remind you that you can contact me with any issues.

While everything is slowly returning to normal, we continue harvesting. For example, we are harvesting Verdelli lemons:

Limón Verdelli

We are harvesting those that are already ripe, and those that are not yet, remain on the tree.

The same will happen with Navelina oranges; those that are ready to go to your home will be picked from the tree, while those that are not will stay, waiting for their perfect ripeness.

Now then 🍊. The Navelina is, without a doubt, the queen of table oranges. If you've visited our blog, you'll know that we have table oranges and juice oranges.

And among the table oranges, we have this variety, which is one of my favorites. You might wonder why?

Well, because it has everything: the right sweetness and acidity. It's not too acidic, but it has enough acidity to taste like an orange, and it also has fine pulp.

For me, it combines the best conditions.

Valencian Oranges

Last week I mentioned that we would have to assess the damage caused by the excess water. Let me tell you about it.

The oranges that were near the ground, when the plot flooded, touched the water and spoiled. This happened to approximately 20% of the oranges in my plot.

The remaining ones are healthy and delicious, waiting to be harvested and sent to your home.

To be honest, I have many mixed feelings right now. It's hard to return to normal knowing that some people have lost everything.

But we have to continue with the harvests, because it's important that the food we produce continues its journey.

Furthermore, there are problems that can be solved if dealt with in time…

Do you remember when I told you about root asphyxia? This is when excess water affects the roots. That is, when the soil becomes waterlogged, the roots cannot breathe, and the asphyxia is so severe that the tree can die…

But in our fields, we are taking measures and applying certain care to the trees to heal their roots and prevent this from happening. We trust that everything will turn out well.

Contact with nature always teaches that everything sprouts and is reborn 🌱.

And in situations like these, there's nothing else to do but push forward together.

I take this opportunity to thank you again for your support of Spanish agriculture.

Remember that all the products we have on the website are available with the usual quality, and that, starting Monday, you can visit our online store and order the best Valencian oranges.

If you haven't tried this year's persimmons yet, go for it because they are special. Many people, when they see them, think they are tomatoes! I almost had a fit when I first heard that. But I understand that it's a product that isn't promoted enough. The truth is, it's a shame, because they are to die for.

Oh, and if you want to read more, in this article from our blog you can learn more about orange varieties.

See you next week.

A big hug!
