Good morning!

Surprise! Your trusted newsletter straight from the Spanish fields changed its day 🗓️.

The truth is it was getting complicated for me to write to you on Thursdays, and I thought the best thing I could do was start the week by telling you the news from the fields. So, from today on, the Thursday newsletter will be the Monday newsletter.

To start this new cycle, I'm going to tell you about... You've probably guessed! About my beloved oranges 🧡:

Today I want to talk about something you might never have considered, but which directly affects the taste of the fruit you consume: prolonged storage and the absorption of odors in oranges.

Yes, you read that right. An orange can lose some of its freshness and acquire a strange taste if it has been stored for too long in an unsuitable place.

Oranges, like other citrus fruits, are very sensitive to odors in their environment. If you have ever stored oranges in the fridge next to a plate of fish, onion, or strong cheese, they may have absorbed some of those aromas, giving them, shall we say... a strange aftertaste.

But it's not just nearby foods that influence the taste of an orange; the food industry's own preservation methods also do.

In large warehouses where oranges can spend weeks or even months before reaching the consumer, controlled environments with specific humidity and temperature are used, but also products to prolong their shelf life. These are the famous post-harvest chemicals that we do not use.

Over time, the combination of storage and the application of these treatments I mentioned ends up affecting the taste of the fruit. If you've ever bought an orange that smells a little "off" or has a dull, almost artificial taste, now you know why.

Here in my fields, we do things very differently. Our oranges are not stored for months or receive post-harvest treatments. Simply, when you place your order, we go to the field, harvest the fruit, and send it directly to your home. No industrial cold rooms, no layers of wax, and no strange odors ❌.

Just the natural aroma of fresh orange, as it should be 🍊.

And, if you're wondering what the secret to enjoying flavorful oranges is, the answer is simple: freshness.

I always say: Nothing beats the taste of an orange freshly picked from the tree 😉.

I'll say goodbye until next Monday, have a great day and don't forget to reserve your harvest.

See you next week.

A big hug!
